Working from home can have its challenges but you can always make it easier. The list below are some work from home essentials that will help you to be productive and make the most of your day.
1. A Comfortable chair
It’s tempting to sit at any ‘ole chair for work and it’s really temptenting to sacrifice aesthetics over function. But if you are setting up for an 40 hour work week it’s best to invest in something that will really support you. Some ergonomic office chairs can be a bit more on the pricey side but many companies will provide allowances for ergonomic home setups. It never hurts to ask.
2. Headphones
Quality headphones are always something that you should have in your stash of work from home essentials. One with a built in microphone makes calls a breeze. This item is super useful if you’re sharing your home office with a roommate or spouse but still want to be able to hear what is going on during a conference call. You’ll be able to have others hear you without extra ambient noise.
3. Monitor
Don’t hunch over your laptop buy a quality monitor….maybe two. It is probably the easiest way to up your productivity.
4. Notebook
There’s something to be said about an analog notebook. Sometimes you don’t have time to pull up your notes document during a meeting so it’s always nice to have a place to jot down quick notes during a meeting.
5. A good pen
You should have an abundant supply of quality pens and not those cheap ones you stole from the bank. There’s nothing worse than picking up pen after pen that is dried out when all you want to do is write down something before it escapes your memory. I’m partial to felt tip pens but if you’re more of a ballpoint person the 6. Blue Light Filter Glasses
If you already wear glasses you may already have blue light filter built into your glasses but even if you don’t wear glasses you should consider getting a non-prescription pair of blue light filter glasses to reduce eye strain.
7. Inspirational Artwork
You spend a lot of time in your workspace and it’s good to have positive affirmations around you to keep you motivated throughout the work day. In my space I have a 8. Quick Reference Calendar
Have a quick reference long term calendar at your disposal. Admittedly this one is more optional especially if you have a digital calendar system you’re happy with. But I like having a quick reference calendar ready to know if that project due date 3 months out into the future is Tuesday or a Wednesday.
9. Desk Organizer
Have a dedicated space to put your pens and post-its. This well help keep your space clutter free.
10. HD Web Camera
A lot of computers are suited and booted with the most high end processors for technical work….but then they have a 8 megapixel camera. Whyyyyy computer gods??? Well turns out there’s an easy fix. You can purchase a HD camera. You don’t want to be a pixely mess during a big presentation and a proper camera can really make a difference. (This one has a built in ring light! )
